These standards apply to news articles, product coverage, reviews, explainers, opinion pieces and other editorial content published by Technology Blog.

Accuracy

We aim to verify material facts before publication.

Depending on the article, verification may include reviewing:

Official announcements
Company documentation
Product specifications
Regulatory documents
Government sources
Court documents
Direct statements
Interviews
Research publications
Reputable original reporting

We distinguish between confirmed information, reported information, estimates, rumours and opinion.

We do not knowingly publish information that we believe to be false or misleading.

When important information cannot be independently confirmed, the uncertainty should be made clear to readers.

Fact-checking

Articles are checked for factual accuracy before publication.

Important details may include:

Names and job titles
Product names and model numbers
Prices
Dates
Technical specifications
South African availability
Company statements
Quotations
Regulatory or legal details

We do not invent quotations, product specifications, prices, test results or availability information.

Where South African pricing or availability has not been confirmed, the article should state this rather than presenting international information as local fact.

Sources and attribution

Technology Blog aims to identify the source of material claims wherever doing so is appropriate and safe.

Sources may be attributed through:

Links to official announcements
Links to supporting documentation
Named quotations
References within the article
Source notes
Links to earlier reporting

When another publication has produced original reporting, Technology Blog should credit that publication and link to the original report where possible.

Press releases may be used as a starting point, but articles should not simply reproduce promotional material without context or editorial review.

Anonymous sources will be used cautiously. The reason for withholding a source’s identity should be explained when possible without exposing the source.

Quotations

Direct quotations must accurately reflect the source’s words.

Quotations may be shortened for clarity, but their meaning must not be changed.

Technology Blog does not create quotations or attribute statements to people who did not make them.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, manufacturers, retailers and public-relations representatives.

Commercial relationships do not guarantee coverage or influence the conclusions of independent editorial articles.

Sponsored content, paid partnerships, affiliate-supported content and other commercial arrangements must be clearly labelled.

Reviews

A product or service will only be described as reviewed when Technology Blog has conducted genuine first-hand testing or evaluation.

Manufacturer claims must be distinguished from findings made during testing.

Where a product was supplied by a manufacturer, distributor or retailer, this should be disclosed.

Supplying a review product does not guarantee favourable coverage.

Artificial intelligence

Technology Blog may use artificial-intelligence tools to assist with parts of the editorial workflow, including research organisation, transcription, drafting support, copy editing, search optimisation or image production.

AI-generated output is not treated as a verified source.

Articles remain subject to human editorial review, fact-checking and approval before publication.

AI tools must not be used to invent facts, quotations, product specifications, test results, sources or first-hand experience.

Where an editorial image has been substantially generated or altered using AI, an appropriate disclosure may be included. For products that has not been first handed reviewed there is a greater chance of AI images used.
