Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 brings four-player squads and smarter Xenomorphs to the Alien universe
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 released worldwide on 25 August 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Cross-play is available across PC and console, and the sequel expands the original three-player format to four-player squads.
Steam’s English-language user reviews were Mixed on 19 September 2026, with roughly 62% of about 2,600 reviews positive. Players researching the game after release can also read our broader Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 gameplay and co-op overview.
The sequel keeps the third-person cooperative shooter structure of the 2021 game but increases squad sizes from three to four players. It also introduces five upgraded classes, a new Specialist endgame class, deeper weapon customisation, an updated Horde mode and cross-platform co-op.
Four Marines against overwhelming numbers
The biggest immediate change is the move to four-player squads.
The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite was built around three-player teams. Fireteam Elite 2 adds another Marine, giving squads more room to combine different abilities and roles.
The official game description emphasises deeper squad mechanics and improved coordination. Players are expected to work together rather than simply firing at anything that moves.
Five classes return with major upgrades
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 features five unique classes, each receiving major upgrades.
The classes provide different tactical options and playstyles, allowing squads to build around different combinations of damage, support, crowd control and survival capabilities.
The Specialist adds another layer to progression
The Specialist is a new endgame class that allows players to create more customised Marines.
Players can experiment with different abilities and create builds suited to their preferred playstyle or the needs of their squad.
For players who plan to spend significant time with the game after completing the campaign, this could become one of the sequel’s most important progression systems.
Xenomorphs are getting more dangerous
Cold Iron Studios says the sequel features smarter and more aggressive enemies, alongside returning and new threats.
The intention is to make players adapt their tactics instead of relying on the same approach throughout every mission.
That becomes particularly important when large numbers of Xenomorphs attack simultaneously.
Weapon customisation goes deeper
Weapons can be modified using fire modes, Augments and unique Weapon Traits.
This gives players additional control over their loadouts and creates another layer of build customisation alongside the game’s class system.
Different weapons can therefore be adapted to different situations rather than simply being replaced when a stronger weapon becomes available.
Horde mode returns
Horde mode returns with additional challenges and rewards.
Players must survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies, providing an alternative to the main campaign and another reason to experiment with different classes, weapons and squad combinations.
Cross-platform co-op
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 supports cross-platform co-op, with cross-platform voice chat also confirmed.
For South African players, this is particularly useful because PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can potentially form the same squad.
The game requires a broadband internet connection on PC. There is currently no confirmed information about South African server infrastructure, so actual latency will depend on the server region used and each player’s connection.

No launch reviews yet
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has not launched yet, so there are currently no meaningful player reviews of the finished game.
TechnologyBlog.co.za has also not independently tested the game.
That means questions around launch performance, matchmaking, server stability, campaign length and long-term replayability will need to wait until players have access to the final release.
A larger Fireteam Elite experience
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is expanding rather than abandoning the formula established by its predecessor.
Four-player squads, upgraded classes, the Specialist system, deeper weapon customisation, new enemies and an expanded Horde mode all build around the same basic concept: getting a group together and surviving waves of hostile creatures.
For South African gamers, cross-platform co-op is particularly useful because friends do not need to own the same platform to play together.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 launches on 25 August 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
