ASUS Vivobook 15 X1504 brings upgradeable memory and a 15.6-inch FHD display to everyday laptops
The ASUS Vivobook 15 X1504 is a 15.6-inch everyday laptop aimed at students, home users and professionals who need conventional Windows computing without moving into ASUS’s higher-performance gaming or creator ranges.
ASUS South Africa currently lists several X1504 configurations, with processor choices ranging from Intel Core i3 models through 13th-generation Core i5 and Core i7 hardware, as well as newer Intel Core 5 120U and Core 7 150U options on selected versions. Storage reaches 1TB, while memory configurations vary according to the specific X1504 variant.
The chassis weighs about 1.7kg and includes a 180-degree hinge, physical webcam privacy shutter, full-size keyboard and a collection of USB-A, USB-C and HDMI connections. ASUS also lists a 42Wh battery and fast charging that can restore the battery to 60% in as little as 49 minutes under its test conditions.
TechnologyBlog.co.za has not tested the Vivobook 15 X1504. This article therefore focuses on its verified specifications, available configurations and practical buying considerations rather than making conclusions about performance or battery endurance.
X1504 is a family rather than one fixed configuration
The first thing buyers need to understand is that Vivobook 15 X1504 does not describe one fixed laptop specification.
ASUS South Africa currently lists the X1504VA, X1504VAP and X1504VAPB within the broader X1504 family. Processor, memory, storage, display, wireless hardware and even keyboard features can change according to the exact SKU.
Processor options shown across the local specification page include:
- Intel Core i3-1215U
- Intel Core i3-1315U
- Intel Core i5-1334U
- Intel Core i5-1335U
- Intel Core i7-1355U
- Intel Core 5 120U
- Intel Core 7 150U
The Core i7-1355U reaches a listed boost frequency of up to 5GHz, while the newer Core 7 150U reaches up to 5.4GHz.
That variation makes the complete model number important when shopping locally. A retailer advertising simply “Vivobook 15 X1504” has not provided enough information to establish the processor, RAM or storage configuration.
The 15.6-inch display prioritises practical everyday use
ASUS builds the X1504 around a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080.
The South African specification page lists 60Hz panels with 250-nit brightness, a 45% NTSC colour gamut and an 84% screen-to-body ratio. Anti-glare treatment and TÜV Rheinland certification are also listed. Both touch and non-touch configurations exist depending on the model.
Those specifications make the screen suitable for conventional productivity, study, web browsing and video consumption.
The 45% NTSC colour specification is worth noting for buyers doing colour-critical creative work. The X1504 is positioned as an everyday laptop rather than a specialist colour-accurate workstation.
Its 60Hz refresh rate also reflects that focus. Buyers looking specifically for high-refresh gaming should not interpret the Vivobook branding as a gaming specification.
Integrated Intel graphics handle the display workload
Graphics are integrated into the Intel processor rather than supplied through a dedicated graphics card.
ASUS lists Intel UHD, Intel Iris Xe or newer Intel integrated graphics depending on the processor and memory configuration.
One detail deserves attention with older Core i5 and Core i7 models.
ASUS notes that Intel Iris Xe functionality requires a suitable dual-channel memory configuration. A machine running only its onboard memory may therefore expose different graphics behaviour from the same processor paired with an additional compatible SO-DIMM.
Integrated graphics can handle everyday desktop work, video playback and lighter graphics workloads. TechnologyBlog.co.za has not tested gaming performance on the X1504 and would not position it as a dedicated gaming laptop without appropriate benchmark evidence.
Memory can be upgraded on many X1504 configurations
Upgradeability is one of the more practical parts of the Vivobook 15 design.
Several X1504 configurations combine 8GB of onboard memory with a SO-DIMM slot, allowing an additional memory module to be fitted.
ASUS South Africa lists multiple DDR4 configurations supporting up to 16GB of total system memory. Selected newer versions use DDR5 and can reach up to 24GB, depending on the exact model.
This is useful because 8GB remains adequate for relatively light computing, but 16GB provides more headroom for users who keep many browser tabs, office applications and communication tools running simultaneously.
Buyers should confirm the exact SKU before purchasing memory. The X1504 range includes both DDR4 and DDR5 configurations, so RAM should not be ordered purely from the laptop’s marketing name.
Storage reaches 1TB on ASUS’s local specification page
ASUS lists M.2 NVMe SSD storage across the X1504 family.
Configurations include 512GB drives, while selected models reach 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. The chassis provides an M.2 2280 slot with PCIe support.
A 512GB SSD should provide enough capacity for Windows, normal productivity applications and a reasonable collection of personal files.
Users storing large photo libraries, video projects or other high-capacity files may want the 1TB configuration or additional external storage.
Again, buyers should check the complete SKU rather than assuming every X1504 includes the maximum advertised capacity.
The port selection still includes three USB-A connections
The X1504 offers a useful collection of conventional connections.
ASUS lists:
- 2 × USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1 × USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C
- 1 × USB 2.0 Type-A
- 1 × HDMI 1.4
- 1 × 3.5mm audio combination jack
- DC power input
Having three USB-A ports can be useful for users with existing mice, storage drives, printers and other accessories that have not moved to USB-C.
The USB-C connection operates at up to 5Gbps according to ASUS’s specification.
Importantly, ASUS uses a dedicated DC input for the supplied power adapter. Buyers should not assume the presence of USB-C means every X1504 configuration can charge through that port.
Wi-Fi specification varies between configurations
Wireless networking is another area where checking the exact SKU matters.
ASUS South Africa lists X1504 configurations with Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, while Bluetooth versions range from Bluetooth 5.1 to Bluetooth 5.3 depending on model and operating-system support.
A Wi-Fi 6E configuration can use the 6GHz wireless band when connected to compatible infrastructure.
Actual network performance still depends on the router, internet connection, wireless environment and the particular network adapter installed in the laptop.
For buyers purchasing specifically because they need Wi-Fi 6E, confirming the full product number before paying is essential.
The 42Wh battery supports fast charging
Every X1504 configuration shown on ASUS South Africa’s current specification table carries a 42Wh three-cell lithium-ion battery.
ASUS advertises fast charging from a low battery to 60% in as little as 49 minutes.
There are conditions attached to that claim.
ASUS says the test requires the machine to be switched off or in standby and uses a power adapter rated at at least 45W. The company also allows a tolerance of roughly 10% in the charging time.
TechnologyBlog.co.za has not tested the laptop’s battery life or charging speed.
A 42Wh battery is relatively modest for a 15.6-inch notebook, so buyers who expect to work away from power for long periods should look beyond the fast-charging claim and consider independent battery testing for their intended configuration.
The webcam gets a physical privacy shutter
The X1504 uses a 720p HD webcam.
Its resolution is relatively basic by current laptop standards, but ASUS has included a physical privacy shutter that can slide across the camera when it is not in use.
A physical shutter provides a visible barrier over the camera rather than relying entirely on software controls.
ASUS also includes an array microphone and its AI Noise Canceling functionality through MyASUS.
The feature is intended to reduce unwanted background sound during calls. TechnologyBlog.co.za has not independently tested its effectiveness.
A 180-degree hinge makes the screen easier to share
The Vivobook 15 can open until the display lies flat at 180 degrees.
That does not turn it into a convertible tablet because the display does not fold fully behind the keyboard. Instead, the hinge can make it easier to position the laptop or share information with somebody sitting across a table.
ASUS also lists a precision touchpad and 1.4mm keyboard travel.
Backlighting and a fingerprint sensor are available on selected configurations rather than guaranteed across the entire X1504 range.
This is another feature buyers should verify on the exact South African SKU.
ASUS Antimicrobial Guard Plus covers frequently touched areas
Selected Vivobook 15 X1504 surfaces receive ASUS Antimicrobial Guard Plus.
ASUS says the treatment is applied to frequently touched areas and was tested using ISO 21702 and ISO 22196 methods. Under those laboratory conditions, the company reports more than 99% inhibition of tested viruses and bacteria over a 24-hour period.
That should not be interpreted as the laptop preventing illness or eliminating the need to clean the machine.
It is a surface treatment with laboratory-tested antimicrobial properties, not a substitute for normal hygiene.
MIL-STD-810H testing does not make it indestructible
ASUS also lists the X1504 as having undergone selected US MIL-STD-810H durability testing.
The company says its wider testing regime includes procedures covering conditions such as shock, vibration and environmental stresses.
ASUS itself provides an important qualification: MIL-STD-810H testing takes place under laboratory conditions and does not establish fitness for military use. Damage caused while attempting to reproduce the tests may also be treated as accidental damage rather than warranty-covered failure.
For consumers, the specification is best understood as evidence of additional laboratory durability testing rather than a guarantee that the laptop will survive every drop or impact.

Vivobook forms part of ASUS’s wider PC range
The Vivobook family represents ASUS’s mainstream consumer-computing line, covering machines intended for home users, students and general productivity.
ASUS also maintains separate PC families for different workloads and customer groups. TechnologyBlog.co.za has previously covered ASUS’s wider 2026 PC activity through the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra, including the company’s increasing focus on local AI processing and modern Windows hardware. Read our ASUS ExpertBook Ultra coverage
That existing coverage provides broader context around ASUS’s current PC strategy without changing the Vivobook 15’s role as a more conventional everyday notebook.
Who is the Vivobook 15 X1504 for?
The X1504 makes the most sense for users who need a conventional 15.6-inch Windows notebook for everyday work rather than specialised gaming or professional graphics workloads.
Its full-size display, available number pad, USB-A connectivity, replaceable SO-DIMM memory on many configurations and M.2 SSD give it several practical advantages for students and home-office users.
At the same time, buyers should recognise its limitations.
The 250-nit, 45% NTSC panel is not aimed at colour-critical creative work. Graphics are integrated, the webcam is limited to 720p, and the 42Wh battery is relatively modest for a machine of this size.
The biggest buying challenge is simply making sure the advertised laptop is the one you expect.
ASUS sells enough X1504 variations that the processor, RAM, SSD, wireless hardware and optional features can change while the Vivobook 15 name remains the same. For South African buyers, checking the full product number before spending money is therefore more important than relying on the specifications at the top of the family product page.
