MSI Katana 15 HX C14 cuts weight while keeping RTX 5070 graphics and upgradeable storage
MSI has refreshed its Katana gaming laptop range for 2026 with the Katana 15 HX C14, a redesigned 15.6-inch machine that combines Intel’s Core i9-14900HX processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series Laptop graphics.
MSI announced global availability for the new Katana 15 HX C14 on 26 August 2026. The company positions it towards gamers and students looking for a performance-focused notebook without moving into its more specialised premium gaming ranges.
The highest announced configuration combines a 24-core Core i9-14900HX with a GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU carrying 8GB of GDDR7 memory. Display choices reach a 2560 × 1440 IPS-level panel running at 165Hz, while two SO-DIMM slots and two PCIe Gen4 M.2 slots provide considerably more upgrade flexibility than laptops with soldered memory and single-drive storage.

The 2026 Katana uses a familiar Intel processor

The GPU uses NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture and supports features including ray tracing, DLSS and Multi Frame Generation in compatible games.
MSI’s current launch material refers to DLSS 4.5, reflecting NVIDIA’s updated software platform rather than the DLSS 4 branding associated with the original RTX 50 Series laptop launch.
Generated frames should not be treated as equivalent to increasing the GPU’s native rendering performance. DLSS combines reconstruction and AI-generated frames to improve the displayed result in supported games.
Actual gaming performance will also depend on resolution, graphics settings, cooling and the exact Katana configuration.
Up to 170W can be shared between the CPU and GPU
MSI rates the Katana 15 HX C14 for up to 170W of combined CPU and GPU power.
That figure describes the power budget available across the major processors rather than meaning both components continuously consume their individual maximum power at the same time.
The ability to allocate a substantial combined power budget matters in a gaming notebook because high-performance CPUs and GPUs can quickly become limited by cooling or available electrical power.

Cooler Boost uses two fans and four exhaust outlets
Cooling comes through MSI’s Cooler Boost thermal system.
