From its early roots to 2026: the eToro story

eToro was founded in 2007 by Yoni Assia, Ronen Assia and David Ring with the aim of making online investing more accessible and social.

How eToro developed

It launched WebTrader in 2009 and OpenBook in 2010, helping popularise social-investing and copy-trading features. The platform expanded across stocks, cryptoassets and other instruments and became publicly traded on Nasdaq in 2025.

eToro in 2026

By 2026, eToro operated a multi-asset investing platform across dozens of countries, combining brokerage functionality with social feeds and portfolio-copying tools.

Why the history matters

eToro’s history reflects the consumerisation of investing through mobile apps and social features, while the business remains subject to market, product and regulatory differences across jurisdictions.
