Cheng Wei founded Didi Dache in Beijing in 2012 after working at Alibaba, launching a mobile taxi-hailing service as smartphones were rapidly changing urban transport. The app matched passengers with licensed taxi drivers before expanding into private ride-hailing and other mobility services.
