LG’s 21kg AI-powered washing machine brings commercial-sized capacity to South African homes
LG’s F0P2CYV2E is a 21kg front-loading washing machine aimed at households that need to handle exceptionally large laundry loads. The South African model combines AI DD fabric-care technology, six wash motions, Steam, TurboWash 360° and LG ThinQ connectivity, while local retailers currently list the machine at roughly R21,000 to R25,000 depending on the retailer and promotion.
A 21kg washing machine is considerably larger than most household models
The F0P2CYV2E is built around a 21kg maximum wash capacity, putting it well beyond the capacity of the washing machines normally recommended for an average household.
LG itself says an average-sized household generally needs an 8kg to 9kg machine, while 11kg to 13kg models are more appropriate for large families or particularly large loads. The company’s 21kg model therefore sits firmly at the high-capacity end of its residential range.
That capacity can be useful for households dealing with large volumes of washing, bedding and other bulky items. It also means buyers need to consider the physical requirements of the machine before purchasing it.
The F0P2CYV2E measures 700mm wide, 990mm high and 770mm deep, and weighs 92kg. With the door opened to 90 degrees, LG lists a depth of 1,396mm.
This is therefore not simply a case of buying a larger-capacity machine and putting it into any existing laundry space. Door clearance, installation access and floor space all need to be checked first.
AI DD adjusts the washing motion
One of the F0P2CYV2E’s headline technologies is LG’s AI DD, which uses the machine’s Direct Drive motor to assess load characteristics and select washing motions.
LG describes AI DD as using information about the load and fabric softness to select an appropriate combination of washing motions. The system forms part of LG’s six-motion washing technology, which includes movements such as tumbling, scrubbing, rolling, swinging and stepping.
There is an important qualification, however: AI DD is not available across every programme. The F0P2CYV2E also includes TurboWash 360°, with LG listing a TurboWash 39 programme and a performance specification that refers to TurboWash 360° at 29 minutes.
The system uses multiple water jets to distribute water across the load during washing. For consumers, the practical attraction is the possibility of reducing washing time while still handling a substantial load.
However, the advertised shorter cycles should not be interpreted as meaning every 21kg load will be completed in that time. Cycle duration varies according to the programme, load and other settings.
Steam adds an allergy-care function
Steam is another significant part of the machine’s feature set.
LG lists an Allergy Care programme and says the machine has been approved by the British Allergy Foundation for reducing exposure to house dust mite, pollen allergen and bacteria. LG also notes that results can vary depending on the environment.
The distinction matters because this is not a claim that steam sterilises every load or eliminates every allergen. The manufacturer’s wording is specifically about reducing exposure to particular allergens.
The machine also includes Baby Care, Hygiene, Stain Care, Intensive 60, Duvet, Sportswear and Wool programmes, among others.
ThinQ turns the washing machine into a connected appliance
The F0P2CYV2E supports Wi-Fi and LG ThinQ, giving owners access to connected functions including remote start and cycle monitoring, smart diagnosis, downloaded cycles, energy monitoring and a tub-clean coach.
The ThinQ app requires a compatible Android or iOS smartphone, a phone and home Wi-Fi data connection and product registration. LG also cautions that ThinQ features, system compatibility and service availability can vary by country and model.
For South African households, the connected features could be useful for monitoring a long washing cycle without repeatedly checking the machine itself.
The machine also supports Smart Diagnosis, which is designed to help diagnose certain appliance problems.

The F0P2CYV2E is available through South African retailers, although the price depends on the seller and current promotions.
At the time of checking, Hirsch’s listed the machine at R21,999.99, reduced from R24,499.99, and marked it as in stock.
Lategan & Van Biljoens listed it at R20,999, while Kloppers listed an online price of R24,999 and indicated limited stock.
These should be treated as retailer prices rather than an official LG recommended retail price. Appliance promotions can also change quickly.

The Premium Service terms also state that the F0P2CYV2E receives two years of parts and labour cover, with an additional eight years on the Inverter Direct Drive motor for parts.
That distinction is important: the additional motor coverage is not the same as an eight-year full-appliance warranty.
The size is both the attraction and the limitation
The F0P2CYV2E’s 21kg capacity is its biggest selling point, but it is also the feature that makes this machine less suitable for some homes.
LG recommends substantially smaller capacities for typical households. A 21kg machine makes the most sense where large loads are common rather than simply because a bigger capacity sounds better.

The South African retail pricing also places it firmly in the premium appliance category, with current listings sitting around R21,000 to R25,000.
For someone who regularly runs multiple loads because of a large household, bulky bedding or heavy laundry requirements, the capacity could justify the cost. For a smaller household, LG’s own recommendation of roughly 8kg to 9kg for an average-sized home illustrates why buying a 21kg machine simply for its size may not make economic or practical sense.
The more interesting aspect of the F0P2CYV2E is therefore not simply that LG makes a 21kg washing machine. It is the combination of that unusually large capacity with connected controls, automated washing-motion selection, steam and a Direct Drive motor.
