Rigetti Computing: the history behind superconducting quantum computing
Rigetti Computing was founded in 2013 by physicist Chad Rigetti to build full-stack quantum computers based on superconducting qubits.
How Rigetti Computing developed
The company established its own fabrication capability, known as Fab-1, and made quantum processors available through cloud access. It later entered public markets through a special-purpose acquisition transaction in 2022 while continuing work on multi-chip and higher-fidelity systems.
Rigetti Computing in 2026
By 2026, Rigetti developed superconducting quantum processors, control systems and cloud access for research and commercial experimentation.
Rigetti’s vertically integrated approach is unusual because it combines processor design, fabrication and software in a field where reliable manufacturing remains one of the largest technical challenges.
