Temenos through the years: building core banking software
Temenos was founded in Geneva in 1993 by George Koukis to build software for banks.
How Temenos developed
The company expanded internationally around core-banking systems, listed in Switzerland in 2001 and grew through both product development and acquisitions. Its software moved from installed systems toward cloud and software-as-a-service delivery as banking technology modernised.
Temenos in 2026
By 2026, Temenos sold core banking, payments, digital-banking and related software to financial institutions around the world.
Temenos became one of the best-known independent banking-software vendors by specialising deeply in a sector where replacing core systems is expensive, risky and therefore unusually sticky.
Information was checked against public company material, regulatory filings and reputable independent reporting where available, using sources accessible on 18 September 2026.
