LARQ Bottle PureVis 2 combines water purification with hydration tracking
A reusable water bottle is normally one of the least complicated objects we carry.

Normal Mode takes one minute
Users can manually start a PureVis treatment cycle from the bottle’s cap.
A single press activates Normal Mode, which runs for one minute.
For situations where additional treatment is desired, a double press activates Adventure Mode, which runs for three minutes.
LARQ notes that using Adventure Mode frequently can also reduce battery runtime.
The button-based controls mean the core purification function does not require someone to open the phone app every time they fill the bottle.
Self-cleaning runs automatically every two hours
PureVis also serves a second purpose.
LARQ automatically activates a 10-second self-cleaning cycle every two hours.
The goal is to inhibit biological growth inside the bottle and reduce the odours commonly associated with reusable bottles.
That does not make physical washing unnecessary.
The cap, bottle, straw and filter system still need proper cleaning and maintenance.
However, automatic UV-C cycles can reduce the opportunity for biological growth between washes.
This is one of the more practical differences between the PureVis 2 and a conventional insulated bottle.
Nano Zero filtration handles different contaminants
The supplied version includes an Essential Bottle Filter.
LARQ says the filter is designed to improve taste and reduce substances including chlorine, PFOA/PFOS and selected pharmaceuticals.
The company says its plant-based filters have undergone independent testing against NSF/ANSI standards.
This filtering stage is important because PureVis cannot replace physical filtration.
If the problem in the water is a dissolved chemical rather than a biological organism, UV-C light does not remove that substance.
Consequently, the two systems complement one another rather than duplicate the same function.
The Essential filter lasts around two months
LARQ rates its Essential Bottle Filter for up to 94 litres, or 25 gallons, of filtered water.
It also specifies replacement after approximately two months, whichever limit becomes relevant according to use.
The LARQ app can track filter usage.
When installing a new filter, users reset its status in the app so the bottle can estimate remaining life according to water volume and flow.

The Advanced filter is rated for up to 151 litres, or 40 gallons, although LARQ still specifies replacement at around two months.
LARQ also warns that the denser filtration produces more resistance when drinking through the straw.
Therefore, the Advanced filter is not automatically the better choice for every user.
The correct filter depends on what the user actually needs to remove.
The bottle tracks hydration automatically
The LARQ Bottle PureVis 2 also acts as a hydration tracker.
Sensors built into the cap monitor changes in water level.
LARQ says the bottle takes a measurement after the user places it on a flat surface.
That data can then synchronise with the LARQ app.

Bluetooth Low Energy connects the bottle with the LARQ app.
Users can set hydration targets and track progress over time.
The app can also provide reminders and show hydration trends.
This makes the bottle closer to a wearable fitness tracker in philosophy than a normal drinking vessel.
Instead of merely storing water, it creates a record of behaviour.
Whether that is useful depends heavily on the person.

The supplied 680ml / 23oz version measures approximately 25.4cm high and 7.45cm in diameter.
It weighs 376g when empty.
LARQ says this smaller model should fit most standard cup holders.

Nevertheless, 376g before adding water is substantially heavier than a basic plastic water bottle.

The LARQ Bottle PureVis 2 is interesting because almost every piece of technology has a clearly defined role.
PureVis UV-C targets selected biological contaminants and helps keep the bottle cleaner.
Nano Zero filtration addresses selected substances the UV system cannot remove.
Sensors monitor water consumption.
Bluetooth transfers that information to the app.
The light ring provides hydration reminders.
Meanwhile, the stainless-steel body keeps the product useful even when the smart functions are not demanding attention.
That does not make it essential.
It is heavier, more complex and dependent on consumable filters compared with a conventional reusable bottle.
