Chop Chop Inc. launches on Steam with furniture-building and automation gameplay

Chop Chop Inc. has launched on Steam, giving PC players a deliberately unusual route into the business-simulation genre: get fired, pick up an axe and build a furniture empire from scratch.

Developed by NullRef Entertainment and published by rokaplay select, the single-player game launched on 7 August 2026. It combines first-person exploration with resource gathering, crafting, production management, automation and business expansion.

The game’s premise is straightforward. After being fired from Furnox Corp, the player starts with little more than an axe and access to trees. From there, the objective is to turn raw materials into increasingly valuable furniture and use the proceeds to expand the operation.

From chopping trees to automated production

The basic gameplay loop begins with cutting down trees and collecting logs.

Those resources can be processed into planks, which can then be used to create furniture and other objects. As the operation grows, players can invest in improved tools and machinery and build more efficient production lines rather than relying entirely on manual work.

The game also includes a distribution element. Finished products can be transported to a nearby city, where sales generate the money needed to expand the business.

That progression gives Chop Chop Inc. a mixture of traditional crafting-game mechanics and light industrial management. The player isn’t simply gathering resources to unlock another crafting recipe; the long-term objective is to develop a production operation capable of producing higher-value furniture and sets.

The furniture gets deliberately strange

The developers are not treating furniture manufacturing particularly seriously.

The Steam listing highlights creations including a wooden PC and wooden weight bench, alongside a broader catalogue of furniture, props and tools. Players can also work with purchased components when they cannot produce particular materials themselves.

The world itself is similarly unconventional. Alongside ordinary resources, players can encounter unusual trees made from materials such as stone, metal and electricity. Their origins form part of the game’s exploration and progression systems.

Players can also meet characters, complete activities for them and use the surrounding city as part of the game’s progression. Character improvements include strength and stamina upgrades, while meals can provide statistical benefits.

A small indie game that built a sizeable audience before launch

The game’s pre-release performance provides useful context for its launch.

NullRef Entertainment announced on 25 July that Chop Chop Inc. had passed 100,000 Steam wishlists. That followed milestones of 75,000 wishlists in June and 40,000 around the launch of the free demo in May.

The free demo went live on Steam on 21 May 2026, allowing players to try the game’s core concept while development continued. The developers said player feedback, bug reports and other community responses were being used during development.

That makes the launch particularly notable for a small independent project. The wishlist figure does not translate directly into sales, but it does show that the game’s combination of crafting, business management and comedy generated significant interest before release.

The developers also announced the final release date on 20 July, confirming that the full game would launch on 7 August.

PC requirements are relatively demanding for an indie crafting game

Although the game has a relatively playful presentation, its listed PC requirements are worth checking before purchasing.

Storage5 GB5 GB
Storage typeSSD requiredSSD required

Steam also notes support for displays with 16:10 and wider aspect ratios, while 5:4 and 4:3 displays are not supported.

The graphics requirements are therefore something prospective players should pay attention to. In particular, the recommended GPU requirement of an RTX 3080 Ti or RX 6800 XT is substantially above what many entry-level gaming PCs would have installed.

What about South African gamers?

Chop Chop Inc. is a Windows PC title distributed through Steam, so South African players with compatible PCs can access it through the platform.

However, South African pricing and local retail availability had not been confirmed in the sources reviewed at the time of publication. The international Steam listing should therefore be checked directly for the current regional price rather than assuming that an overseas price converts directly to the final South African cost.

There is also no indication in the available Steam information of a dedicated South African physical release or local retail distribution.

For South African PC gamers, the more important practical consideration may therefore be hardware. The minimum specification calls for a GTX 1070 Ti or RX 5600 XT-class GPU, while the recommended specification rises to an RTX 3080 Ti or RX 6800 XT. Players should compare their own systems against the published requirements before buying.

A simulation built around turning unemployment into an empire

The premise is one of the more distinctive aspects of Chop Chop Inc. Instead of beginning with an established company or a conventional career-management scenario, the game starts with the player losing their job and having to build something independently.

That gives the game’s progression a clear economic structure: collect resources, process them, manufacture products, sell them, reinvest the money and automate the operation.

The result sits somewhere between a first-person job simulator, crafting game and light production-management game. Steam’s own tags classify it across simulation, crafting, comedy, first-person, resource management, building, exploration, economy and automation.

The single-player focus also means the game’s appeal is centred on its progression loop rather than multiplayer competition. Steam lists achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing alongside the single-player category.

Chop Chop Inc. is now on Steam

Chop Chop Inc. launched on 7 August 2026 for Windows PC through Steam. A free demo was made available before launch, giving prospective players an opportunity to sample the game’s resource gathering, crafting and furniture-production systems.

For players who enjoy management and crafting games but want something less serious than a conventional business simulator, Chop Chop Inc. offers a straightforward premise: start with an axe, turn trees into products, automate the work and try to build a furniture business big enough to leave the old job behind.

South African pricing and local retail availability remain the key pieces of information that local buyers should verify directly on Steam before purchasing.
