PLANET: Ethernet expands into PoE and industrial networking

PLANET Technology was established in Taiwan in 1993 as a networking company with an explicitly international brand strategy.

Its early growth came through network connectivity products sold beyond Taiwan, building channel reach in Europe and then other regions.

As Ethernet networks became faster and more distributed, PLANET expanded into managed switching, Power over Ethernet, industrial networking, fibre, wireless and surveillance-connected infrastructure.

The company’s engineering sits in IP network transmission. PoE power budgets, switching silicon, optical interfaces, rugged industrial design and management software all shape whether a network can support cameras, access points and IoT devices reliably.

PLANET today

PLANET now markets enterprise and industrial networking products for IoT, IIoT and other connected-infrastructure applications.

Its history matters because it follows Ethernet out of the office and into factories, buildings and outdoor systems. The product portfolio broadened as the network became both a data backbone and a source of device power.
