From early roots to biometric identity: the CLEAR Secure story
The current CLEAR business was founded in 2010 by Caryn Seidman-Becker and Ken Cornick after they acquired the assets of an earlier airport identity service out of bankruptcy.
How CLEAR Secure developed
They rebuilt CLEAR around biometric identity verification, initially concentrating on expedited airport access and later extending the identity network to stadiums, venues and digital services. CLEAR Secure became a public company in 2021.
CLEAR Secure in 2026
By 2026, CLEAR operated a biometric identity platform used for airport and other verification experiences in the United States.
CLEAR’s history is closely tied to a central technology-policy tension: biometrics can reduce friction, but the usefulness of identity platforms depends on strong privacy, security and consent practices.
